Dual & Bluey onto the Bernborough Handicap 2011 – New Year’s Eve Racing

Two Toowoomba-based gallopers may come head-to-head in the 2011 Bernborough Handicap at Doomben on New Year’s Eve after eye-catching wins at Eagle Farm over the weekend with Dual Chamber and Carry Me Bluey possible runners in the December 31 feature.

Rex Lipp’s improving Show A Heart mare Dual Chamber ($4.60) broke a lengthy 20-month drought when the five-year-old beat home odds-on favourite Skating On Ice ($1.90) by one and three quarter lengths in the Listed Just Now Quality (1300m).

Backing up from a close last-start fourth to Zero Rock in the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) on December 3, Dual Chamber hadn’t been first over the line since her victory in a Listed 1200 metre clash at Doomben back in April last year.

Her record now stands at four wins from 27 starts for $348,500 in prize money, which Dual Chamber could be given the chance to add to in the $200,000 Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) at Doomben’s New Year’s Eve meeting.

“I’m really not sure what to do with her now but I’d say the Bernborough (Handicap) will be her next goal,” Lipp said.

One race earlier on Saturday another Toowoomba-trained runner, Carry Me Bluey, also added another turf triumph to their record and had the Bernborough named as a next-up target.

Norm Hilton’s consistent Carry The Flag four-year-old saluted in their seventh race from 19 starts, Carry Me Bluey ($1.80F) taking out the $75,000 Origin Kebabs Handicap (1600m) a neck ahead of the Rob Heathcote-trained Hidden Kisses ($8) with fellow Heathcote hopeful Humma ($21) finishing off the trifecta the same distance away third.

The Bernborough Handicap is the third and final leg of the Doomben Summer Series Triple Crown, which kicked off with the Desleigh Forster-trained Adebisi winning the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) on December 3.

The second leg of the popular series runs this Saturday, December 24, with the $200,000 Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m).
