2012 Magic Millions Classic Bound Sizzling Phelan Ready for Stakes Win

Kelso Wood’s spruik two-year-old Sizzling is preparing to line-up for their second race assignment in the Phelan Ready Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday, the youngster looking to further stake their claims for a 2012 Magic Millions 2YO Classic win on the Gold Coast next month.

One of 10 juvenile colts and geldings accepted for the $100,000 Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m), which is due to run as Eagle Farm Race 2 at 12:55pm (QLD time) on Saturday, Snitzel colt Sizzling is looking to maintain their flawless record after winning on debut at the track back on November 12.

Sizzling made an early name for themselves when easily accounting for their rivals winning over 1000 metres by an emphatic six lengths.

On Saturday they must overcome a wide barrier nine draw, but is shouldn’t stop the punters coming for them in the Luxbet markets.

They are also installed as the futures favourite for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) running on January 14, Sizzling one of 146 Magic Millions Classic entries still in contention with all nine of their rivals on Saturday also heading towards the lucrative Gold Coast feature.

Three other Phelan Ready Stakes acceptors come into the clash with previous experience under race conditions with the David Lawlor-trained Noogoora Burr, Gillian Heinrich’s Pure Whisper and the Liam Birchley-trained Highly Contagious who has drawn ideally in barrier two.

Royal Academy gelding Noogoora Burr won their debut at Eagle Farm back on October 8 by a tidy two lengths on a Heavy (8) track and will only benefit with more rain in Brisbane leading up to Saturday.

Pure Whisper also won their race debut last month taking out a 1010 metre handicap at Doomben with 57kg on their back.

Highly Contagious has had two runs to date but they are yet to break their maiden status having finished dead last behind Pierro in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick in October before their last-start fourth to Military Bride in the Hamilton Hotel Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago.

There will also be plenty of interest on the John Thompson-trained trio making their debut in the race with Shamardal colt Aronson (barrier eight), More Than Ready colt More Than Superb (barrier six) and Redoute’s Choice colt Reflectance (barrier 10).

The Phelan Ready Stakes is one of four black-type features highlighting the Eagle Farm race program on Saturday, the fillies equivalent another one of the headline events with a full field of 12 starters plus three emergencies engaged for the $100,000 Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m).
