20 horses have been nominated for the Group 2 Villiers Stakes at Warwick Farm Racecourse this Saturday December 17, 2011.

Amongst the horses fighting for a place in the 16 horse field is Gai Waterhouse’s King Lionheart.

King Lionheart is one of 20 horses to feature in the nominations for the 2011 Villiers Stakes at Warwick Farm.

The five-year-old is looking to resurrect some of his earlier form in the 2011 Villiers Stakes after posting disappointing results in his last two runs.

King Lionheart finished 15 of 17 in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick on October 1 before finishing seventh in the Listed Festival Stakes at Rosehill on December 3.

Prior to that, the Al Maher gelding won both his first-up starts at Rosehill and his second start in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes.

King Lionheart has won six of his 14 career starts and has earned more than $260,000 in prize money.

Also included in the 2011 Villiers Stakes nominations is New Day Rising, who will be having just his fifth start for new trainer Gary Portelli.

New Day Rising was originally trained by Gai Waterhouse before transferring to Portelli’s stables in October.

The Fastnet Rock gelding won his last start in Sydney last Saturday and is now headed towards the 2011 Villiers Stakes.

New Day Rising will be looking to post his fourth win from 16 starts and will be hoping to add to his $178,000 prize money with the 2011 Villiers Stakes’ $105,000 winner’s cheque.

Last start winner Monton is also one of the 20 horses nominated for the Villiers Stakes 2011.

Monton won the Listed Festival Stakes by half a length in front of Liteinthenite and Viva Las, who also both feature in the 2011 Villiers Stakes nominations.
