Morphettville Race Fields – City of Marion Stakes 2011

While the major summer racing action is taking place in Brisbane and Sydney this season, Adelaide is also set to host a stakes showdown this Saturday with the 2011 City Of Marion Stakes running at Morphettville Racecourse.

Undeniably

Undeniably represents Mark Kavanagh in the 2011 City of Marion Stakes on Saturday

Due to jump at 4:25pm (local time) as Morphettville Race 7, the $80,000 Listed City of Marion Stakes (1200m) this year features a quality field of 10 sprinters including three last-start winners.

The first of the trio seeking back-to-back wins is the David Jolly-trained Shekinaar, the classy Foxhound mare resuming on November 26 with a gritty first-up win over 1000 metres.

Tipped for more improvement stepping up to 1200 metres, the six-year-old is due to jump from barrier six with Justin Potter in the saddle and is one of two City Of Marion Stakes hopefuls for Jolly.

Jolly’s other representative on Saturday will be the ultra-consistent Conduction, one of two 53.5kg lightweights of the field along with Troy Baker’s ride Believe In More.

Drawn midfield in barrier five, Reset four-year-old Conduction has only finished out of the top three in two of their 14 starts to date, the progressive gelding last seen finishing second to Tabulated in a 1550 metre handicap on November 26.

It is an unusual preparation stepping them back from the 1550m to 1200m, but one that Jolly hopes will see Conduction enter the winners stall for the third time in the career, the first under his preparation.

The two other last-start winners are the Lloyd Kennewell-trained stablemates Lexcen and The Eighth Maker who have drawn side-by-side in barriers seven and eight.

Clangalang gelding Lexcen is out for their third win from four starts while The Eighth Maker, a fellow son of Clangalang, is looking for their third on the trot.

Other notable City Of Marion Stakes hopefuls include Victorian raider Rocking Force who is equal 58kg topweight with Lucid Refelction, and the Mark Kavanagh-trained Fastnet Rock five-year-old and Group 2 placegetter Undeniably, the pair drawn in gates two and three respectively.
