Heinrich Unearths Magic Millions Classic 2012 Duo

Former Magic Millions-winning trainer Gillian Heinrich has discovered two more promising juveniles that could be contenders to hand her her second success in her home town Classic with Military Bride and Read All About Me finishing one – three at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Military Bride

Military Bride will look to emulate her stablemate Military Rose in winning the Magic Millions Classic

Heinrich, one of the most recognisable names on the Gold Coast racing scene, enjoyed what she recalls as her biggest turf triumph back in January of 2010 when Military Rose won her opening four career starts on the trot culminating with the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).

Hopeful of adding another Magic Millions Classic trophy to the cabinet, Heinrich has high hopes with both her placegetters in the Hamilton Hotel QTIS 2YO Handicap (1000m) from the weekend.

She also already has Pure Whisper, a Purrealist colt that won on debut at Doomben early last month, qualified for the Magic Millions Classic 2012.

Winner Military Bride, who shares the same sire as her Magic Millions Classic winning stablemate being a daughter of General Nediym, was ultra-impressive putting a length and a quarter on runner-up Optionality while Read About Me was far from disgraced despite the sizeable gap between second and third.

It was Military Bride’s debut win and a nice turning of the tables after she ran fifth to Optionality in a 1020 metre handicap at Doomben in her first career run back on November 19, the addition of blinkers on Saturday at the suggestion of jockey Brad Stewart helping to sharpen her up.

“Brad suggested after her first run to put blinkers on her and they obviously helped a lot,” Heinrich said.

“I’m very happy she’s in the Magic Millions now and we’re looking forward to the race.”

Meanwhile it was the second third place finish from as many career runs for All Bar One gelding Read All About Me who debuted at the Sunshine Coast on November 20, and who still needs to break their maiden status to likely earn a Magic Millions start.

“I thought Read All About Me’s run was very good and being by All Bar One (who Heinrich owns) we’d love to see him get in the Magic Millions,” Heinrich said.

Military Bride will next race in the $100,000 Listed Calaway Gal Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on December 17, a race Military Rose won on way to her 2010 Magic Millions success.

The improving filly will then take on stablemate Pure Whisper, who will first race in the Listed Phelan Ready Plate (1200m) on the same day as the Calaway Gal Plate, in the $150,000 Listed BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on New Year’s Eve, where she will also be looking to emulate the 2010 win of Military Rose.

2012 Magic Millions 2YO Classic nominations are due to be taken this Friday, December 9, with Races.com.au to publish the full list of early entries.
