2011 Kingston Town Classic winner Playing God

Playing God turned his form around and grabbed back-to-back wins in the Group I 2011 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot today.

The Luxbet $19 bolter picked up the last Australian Group 1 event for 2011 after being given a great ride by Steven Parnham.

While Playing God hadn’t won since February and failed in a Melbourne spring campaign, it didn’t stop him retuning to his best in the 2011 Kingston Town Classic.

Trainer Neville Parnham freshened the four-year-old on his farm and mixed it with beach work in order to turn Playing God around.

At his last start he finished an inglorious 14th behind Luckygray in the Railway Stakes.

Jockey Parnham settled the son of Blackfriars in third spot, one off the rail in the 2011 Kingston Town Classic.

He took took off before the field straightened and booted clear.

Ranger Luxbet $3.70, was blocked for a run and made significant ground to take second with three-year-old King Saul Luxbet $5.50 (third) ahead of Battle Emblem (fourth)  Luxbet $101.

Luxbet 2011 Kingston Town Classic favourite Luckygray $2.90 never threatened after being back near the rear and wide at the home turn.

He ran on fairly well to gain fifth but didn’t run the 1800m out strongly.

“I was very confident the horse was going to be very hard to beat today,” Neville Parnham said.

“We had planned to ride him closer to the speed and its been very hard to make up ground today.

“I knew we had taken the sprint out of his legs leading into the Railway.

“We changed his whole training routine around and it has paid off.

“He’ll go the paddock now.

The winning jockey described the win as “unbelievable”.

“When I felt I was ready to go I pulled him out,” Steven Parnham said.

“The way he let down I was very confident but you can’t see what is behind you.

“To win is just unbelievable.

“He was down and out.

“The change in work load has brought him back.”

Wolfe Dreams was a late scratching after hitting its head on the barrier before the start.
