Aquanita Stakes Field & Preview – Kingston Town Classic Day 2011

The race won by defending Kingston Town Classic hero Playing God 12 months ago, the newly-rescheduled $80,000 Listed Aquanita Stakes (1800m) is set to run as part of the 2011 Kingston Town Classic Day action at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday.

Playing God

Last year's Aquanita Stakes winner Playing God

Running as Ascot Race 3 at 1:20pm (Perth time), the 2011 Aquanita Stakes field features 10 hopeful three-year-olds led by the Brian O’Malley-trained Final Cut.

To wear the No. 1 saddlecloth and due to jump from barrier one, Playing God’s winning gate last year, the emerging stayer comes off a close second to Roman Knows in a 1500 metre handicap at the track last Saturday carrying 58kg and will appreciate coming back to the 56.5kg under set weights conditions this weekend.

Two other runners in the Aquanita Stakes field this year come off a last-start placing with Keepers Court and Arete both having run third in their lead-up runs.

Suffering an early blow drawing the extreme outside gate, Alan Mathew’s Keeper colt Keepers Court ran third to Final Cut in the Crown Lager Handicap (1400m) at Ascot on November 19, before which they won their first two starts for the season on the trot.

Stepping up to 1800 metres will suit, Keepers Court having run away to win a 1500 metre feature at Ascot earlier last month by an easy four lengths.

Arete fared better with barrier six, Darren McAuliffe’s Pentire gelding with winning form up to a mile having taken out a mile feature at Pinjarra by an impressive three lengths two starts back.

Meanwhile visiting Sydney-based jockey Glyn Schofield has the ride aboard the Daniel Morton-trained Ningaloo Blitz in the Aquanita Stakes, the young filly having run an eye-catching fourth beaten less than two lengths by King Saul – one of the favourites for the 2011 Kingston Town Classic on Saturday through Luxbet – in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 19.
