Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes 2011 Final Field & Preview

One of the two Listed showdowns lighting up Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday will be the 2011 Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes, the quality handicap attracting a 14-horse final field at acceptance stage on Wednesday.

The top-weighted hopeful in the $80,000 Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes (1600m) this year is the Liam Birchley-trained Pepperwood with 57.5kg.

Drawn wide in gate 13 of 14 and due to be ridden by Chris Whitelley, the Easy Rocking seven-year-old returns to Queensland after a two-start interstate campaign that included a game fifth to Lamasery in the Listed Johnnie Walker Stakes (1800m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

Birchley will also be represented in the day’s other feature with his in-form mare Liesele racing in the $80,000 Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m).

Following Pepperwood in the Recognition Stakes field order and weights are then the Robert Heathcote-trained duo Fillydelphia and Humma both on 57kg and both drawing wide in gates nine and 10 respectively.

Smart Bianconi mare Fillydelphia seeks her third straight win, the improving four-year-old last seen taking out the Listed Brisbane Handicap (1630m) at Doomben on November 19 a race their veteran eight-year-old stablemate Humma finished second in.

The only other runner weighted above the 53kg minimum in the race is the Phillip Cox-trained Towoomba galloper Secrets Untold who will be ridden from gate one by Larry Cassidy on 55.5kg, the nine-year-old looking to improve on their dead last finish in the Brisbane Handicap.

Horses that also drew well in the Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes barrier draw for Saturday include John Thompson’s Warwick Farm-based mare Wonderful Lass (barrier two), Rockdale (barrier three) coming off a third in the Brisbane Handicap and the Norm Hilton-trained last-start Doomben winner Carry Me Bluey (barrier eight) to be ridden by Chris Munce.
