Japan Racing Assocation Trophy Nominations 2011

One of five black-type features running at the final Group 1 meeting of the year at Ascot this Saturday is the $80,000 Listed Japan Racing Association Trophy (2200m), a nice lead-up run for stayers heading towards a start in the 2011 Perth Cup on New Year’s Eve.

The Japan Racing Association Trophy 2011 nominations originally featured 16 hopefuls, but Super Hawk has been withdrawn since early entries were first taken.

Topweight of the hopefuls is the Neville Parnham-trained God Has Spoken, the Blackfriars five-year-old to carry 58kg with Steven Parnham in the mount.

God Has Spoken, last seen in the winner’s stall back in July when taking out the Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) at Belmont Park, was last seen running sixth to New Spice in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) at Ascot on Railway Stakes Day, November 19.

Tattersall’s Cup winner New Spice has also been nominated for Saturday’s JRA Trophy, Elva Van Merwyk’s veteran eight-year-old the next heaviest-weighted of the contenders with 55.5kg.

Runner-up in the Tattersall’s Cup, Peg’s Pride, and the third placed Knightlike are also among the Japan Racing Association Trophy nominees.

Other notable chances should they accept include Stan Bates’ Belmont Classic winner Miss Tipsy Topsy coming off a third at Ascot last Saturday over 1800 metres, the Trevor Andrews-trained Veracious who was second in the same race, and John Thompson’s Perth Cu-bound Sydney raider Saint Encosta to be ridden by the visiting Glyn Schofield.

The 2011 Japan Racing Association Trophy final field will be released tomorrow and published here at Races.com.au.

While markets are yet to be released for the other Ascot features running this weekend, odds are out for the day’s headline event, the 2011 Kingston Town Classic.
