Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Peter Snowden’s in-form Sydney sprinter Rarefied is being prepared for their fourth black-type assignment in as many starts and in as many states with the 2011 George Moore Stakes in Brisbane on Saturday week having been named as their next-up run.
The classy Commands five-year-old has had their career limited to just 15 starts, three of which they have saluted in, due to ongoing injury issues.
Rarefied, winner of the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes at Randwick back in 2009, has been firing on all cylinders this season with connections showcasing them right across the country.
First-up the honest gelding ran second to Title in the Listed Lightning Handicap (1100m) at Randwick on October 15.
They then travelled to Flemington for a Victoria Derby Day assignment when defeated by the narrowest of margins, finishing second to Sister Madly in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m).
Rarefied was last seen running second for the third time on the trot, this time to returned champion Ortensia in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in Perth on November 19.
Plans are now to head to Queensland for the penultimate Group race at Doomben for the year, the $200,000 Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) on December 10, Snowden keen to give the galloper their chance at another black-type title.
“Normally I would be sending any horse which has raced across three states including Western Australia for an immediate break,” Snowden said.
“But Rarefied was out of racing for 18 months before he came back in the Lightning and he’s only had 15 career starts.
“The Group 1 placing in the Winterbottom did a bit of damage into the way the handicappers look at him now.
“He’s become quite hard to place.
“The $200,000 for the Doomben race is a big carrot.
“At this stage we are planning to bring him up (to Brisbane).”
Rarefied returned to Melbourne from Perth a week ago and has been showing all the signs of being fit and ready to race on according to Snowden.
“He flew back to Melbourne last Monday and is coming back to Sydney tonight,” he said.
“He looks magnificent at the moment so the signs are good he will go on.”
