Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Upset winner of the iconic Cox Plate at Moonee Valley this October, Greg Eurell’s class mare Pinker Pinker is beginning preparations for a Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival assault that will likely involve her targeting the Doncaster Handicap 2012 next April.
Reset four-year-old Pinker Pinker, third in the AJC Oaks back in April, enjoyed a successful spring carnival campaign in both Melbourne and Sydney that saw her boost her career prize money to over $2.5 million.
In her two most recent runs Pinker Pinker finished an eye-catching second to Secret Admirer in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on October 1 and then beat home a crack field as a $25 outsider in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).
Rested after her Cox Plate triumph, Pinker Pinker is set to return to Eurell’s Cranbourne-based stables this coming weekend where she will begin work ahead of the autumn.
Eurell’s stable representative John Baker said they went to inspect Pinker Pinker last week and that she was looking in excellent condition ready for the spoils of next season.
“We went and had a look at her on Friday and she looks marvelous,” he said.
“She really had a good rest so we’ll be looking forward to her.”
While a definite autumn campaign hasn’t yet been drawn up, Baker said that they definitely had their eye on one of the richest of Sydney’s races, the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 21, 2012.
“We haven’t set out a program for her yet but there a number of good races for her such as the Doncaster,” he said.
The 2012 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is second only to the infamous Melbourne Cup Carnival during the spring and features many of the country’s most exclusive and lucrative thoroughbred showdowns including the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and the $2.25 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) both running at Rosehill on April 7, Easter Saturday.
