Night War Wins Draw in 2011 Placid Ark Stakes Nominations

Early favourite to take out the Placid Ark Stakes 2011 at Ascot this Saturday, Simon Miller’s smart filly Night War has drawn ideally with barriers and nominations for the Festival of Perth Racing feature now out.

There were originally 13 early entries for the $80,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m), the sole black-type race on the Perth racing program this weekend, Miller’s well-bred daughter of General Nediym Night War the top-rated nominee.

The latest Placid Ark Stakes update, however, has seen five hopefuls withdrawn leaving a likely field of eight – final acceptances and barriers to be released on Thursday.

A winner of three of her five starts to date including her impressive first-up victory in the Westpeed 3YO Handicap (1000m) at Ascot on November 12, Night War was allocated barrier six of 13.

With the likes of Little Larrikin (barrier four) and Pure Heaven (barrier two) since scratched, however, Night War will come into an even more favourable gate four start.

Meanwhile, ace local horseman Neville Parnham will not be represented in the Placid Ark Stakes this year having officially withdrawn all three of his entries, Pure Heaven, Elite Class and Almachino.

One of the main dangers to Night War, Flying Affair, suffered an early blow drawing the extreme outside gate for Saturday.

Lindsey Smith’s Heritage filly was last seen running a brave second to subsequent WA Guineas winner King Saul, who is a top Luxbet fancy for the upcoming $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 3, in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on October 15.

Other notable three-year-olds that remain in contention include Gracetown coming up trumps in barrier one and coming off a second to Night War, the David Harrison-trained Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Western Fever, progressive gelding Watermans Bay and the Vince Cavallaro-trained Success Park.

Races.com.au will continue to provide the best Perth Summer Racing Carnival coverage including fields for all of the Listed and Group races, betting odds and promos.
