Keith Noud Quality Handicap 2011 Field & Barriers

The 2011 Keith Noud Quality Handicap final field and barrier draw have been released ahead of the feature Eagle Farm handicap running this Saturday, 13 of the 23 nominated horses accepting for the sprint showdown.

Topweight of the $100,000 Listed Keith Noud Quality Handicap (1200m), due to run as Eagle Farm Race 7 at 4:10pm (local time) on Saturday, is the Wayne Nugent-trained Poor Judge with 58.5kg.

Drawn well midfield in barrier six and due to be ridden by Glen Colless, the Royal Academy six-year-old looking to bounce back after their disappointing 11th to Fillydelphia at Doomben over 1350m on November 5.

Premier Brisbane trainer Rob Heathcote has accepted for two of his three original Keith Noud entries with Bel Esprit six-year-old Work The Room drawing barrier seven and Falvelon four-year-old Excellantes suffering an early blow with barrier 12 of 13.

Work The Room is expected to open as one of the top fancies in the Keith Noud Quality Handicap betting markets at Luxbet after the Tattersall’s Mile winner resumed with a smart first-up win over the track and distance on November 12.

Excellantes, who is one of the 53kg lightweights of the race, also comes into Saturday’s clash in good form having run second to their stablemate in their resuming run for the season.

Another top contender having to overcome an awkward gate is the Andrew Williamson-trained Ready To Rip, the progressive More Than Ready four-year-old coming up with barrier 11.

Ready To Rip, a winner of five of their 12 career starts to date, failed in their culminating Brisbane Winter Carnival assignment earlier this year when 12th to Torio’s Quest in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) back in June.

They resumed in good form, however, with a first-up win over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast before their close second at Eagle Farm on November 12.

Meanwhile Kelso Wood’s exciting sprinter Belltone, the chosen mount for ace hoop Chris Munce, has come up trumps with gate five on Saturday as they return to the track after a two and a half month break.

Before being freshened up the Brahms six-year-old won six of their seven starts from May to September, a preparation that impressed connections and Munce who was aboard for three of those victories.

Other big winners in the Keith Noud Quality Handicap barrier draw include the Bryan Guy-trained seven-year-old Group winner Shuffle The Cash (barrier three), and Tony Gollan’s BRC Sprint runner-up Listen Son on the rails in gate one.

Gollan’s other hopeful Spirit Of Boom, returning to Brissy after a one-start Melbourne campaign when fifth in the Listed MSS Security Sprint down the Flemington straight on Melbourne Cup Day, came up with barrier nine and will be ridden by Rick McMahon.
