While two Group 1 races headline the Ascot racing action in Perth this Saturday, another not to miss black-type feature on the 10-race program is the Jungle Mist Classic 2011 and below the Races.com.au team take a look at the latest betting markets and list our tips for this fillies and mares’ showdown.
Scheduled as Ascot Race 6 on Saturday and due to jump at 2:25pm (local time), the $80,000 Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) features a capacity field of 16 starters plus one emergency, second spare Forever Special withdrawn.
Currently the Jungle Mist Classic odds at Luxbet are led by equal $5.50 favourites #2 Answers Are and #15 Sweet Serenity.
The Fred Kersley-trained Xaar mare Answers Are comes off an eye-catching first-up third to one-time Winterbottom Stakes favourite Barakey over the track and distance on November 5 when drawn in gate one and should again get a gun run having come up with barrier two for Saturday.
Also drawn well in barrier five is co-favourite Sweet Serenity, Trevor Andrews’ four-year-old Pearl Of Love mare to be ridden by ace Sydney jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
A winner of three of her 10 career starts to date Sweet Serenity resumes after a lengthy spell having run fifth last-start in the Listed Belmont Oaks (2000m) on July 9, and her decent first-up record of a win and a second from three attempts explain her favouritism in the markets.
Three other Jungle Mist Classic runners under double-figures in the latest odds with Bonitara and Moonlight Bay equal $6.50 second elects at Luxbet, and Absolute Pleasure occupying the third line of betting at $8.
#8 Bontiara has drawn barrier 12, possibly moving into 10 if the other emergency also comes out, Robert Harvey’s Viscount four-year-old looking to maintain her flawless career record that stands at four from four to date. Runs over 1200m for the first time, dropping back from 1400m last-start on September 3, will be fresh but hasn’t seen this type of company before or Ascot so there are queries despite that nice record.
#12 Moonlight Bay was disappointing last-start running 11th over 1400m at Ascot on October 29, before which she won over the 1200m at Ascot carrying 57kg. A hit or miss daughter of Catbird not sure if sprints are where she should be.
Other notable contenders include Gino Poletti’s honest six-year-old Dante’s Diamond ($11 Luxbet) with the inside alley, the Shane Edwards-trained Ima Citinpretty ($31 Luxbet) coming off a last-start win over 1000m at Ascot carrying 58kg (drop back to 53kg on Saturday) and Kersley’s second starter, Belmont Classic runner-up Svara ($26 Luxbet).

The two top elects have plenty in their favour and are certainly deserving, of the two we can’t go past Answers Are with her super consistent form and ace draw.
An unbeaten runner always appeals to us and we like Bontiara to finish in the money here too so back them for a Place at Luxbet.
