2011 Railway Stakes Day – Jungle Mist Classic Final Field

Railway Stakes Day 2011, the richest race meeting of the Festival of Perth Racing, is set to light up Ascot Racecourse this Saturday with one of the key support races on the 10-event card being the $80,000 Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m).

Due to jump at 2:25pm (local time) as Ascot Race 6, the fillies and mares-only 2011 Jungle Mist Classic field has attracted a capacity 16 starters plus two emergencies.

Perhaps the most noteworthy acceptor for the Jungle Mist this year is Robert Harvey’s undefeated mare Bontiara.

Despite an early blow drawing wide in barrier 12, Viscount four-year-old Bontiara is sure to attract plenty of attention from the Luxbet punters as she looks to maintain her flawless career record.

A winner of her opening four career starts, Bontiara was last seen winning a 1400 metre handicap at Belmont Park on September 3.

Saturday will be her first look at Ascot and against stakes company, but the distance should suit and her wide draw could be a non-issue as she has won from barrier 15 of 16 before.

Topweight of the field on 58.5kg is the Todd Harvey-trained Premardal, the five-year-old Shamardal mare out to break an 11 month drought and score their first win since last December’s Starstruck Classic.

Coming off better recent runs are the likes of the Fred Kersley-trained duo Answers Are who is drawn ideally in barrier two and Svara in gate 10, Gino Poletti’s six-year-old Dante’s Diamond with the inside running from gate one and the Trevor Andrews-trained Absolute Pleasure.

Last year’s Jungle Mist Classic winner Power Princess came off a last-start win at Belmont Park and jumped from barrier 11 with Peter Knuckey in the mount.

This year there are two last-start winners engaged, aside from the resuming Bontiara, with Geraldton-based seven-year-old Aptodeti and the Shane Edwards-trained Ima Citinpretty

In a note for the superstitious punters, progressive De Troy four-year-old Ima Citinpretty has also come up with gate 11 with Knuckey engaged for the ride, they will however come into barrier nine if the two emergencies Desire Path (barrier 3) and Forever Special (barrier 6) fail to gain a start.

The complete 2011 Jungle Mist Classic field, barriers and weights can be found in the table below.

Our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet are due to release odds on the race shortly, but it is worth visiting them right now as they already have exclusive markets open on the three Group races running at Ascot on Saturday including the $1 million Railway Stakes.
