Five-year-old Rarefied is preparing to make his Perth debut in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday November 19, 2011.
Rarefied, who is trained at Warwick Farm by Peter Snowden, finished second to Sister Madly by a nose in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes last start.
The gelding’s track rider, Angela Boyd, has been riding Rarefied before daylight breaks each morning in preparation for the Winterbottom Stakes 2011.
“Peter (Snowden) is coming down on Tuesday to watch him gallop,” Boyd said.
“I think he is going to want him to gallop early. The sand here is a bit heavier than at home.
“I like to get him on the new pad before it gets used too much.
“He is a good traveller and he has settled in here beautifully.”
The lightly raced Rarefied has won three of his 14 race starts and has earned close to $300,000 in prize money.
The Commands gelding is looking to post an upset 2011 Winterbottom Stakes win over race favourite Ortensia, who is looking to claim her first Group 1 in the race.

Ortensia was stripped of her only other Group 1 win in The Galaxy in 2010 after she tested positive to a prohibited substance following the race.
Whilst the substance was found not to be performance enhancing, Ortensia was still deprived of her title.
The mare is now back to her best in time for Saturday’s 2011 Winterbottom Stakes run, after a 5 month stint in retirement.
The Paul Messara-trained Ortensia has won nine of her 28 careers starts and accrued more than $1.1 million in prize money.
