Premier Victorian horseman Peter Moody may have spelled his stable ace Black Caviar, but he is still hoping to enjoy some late season success at Sandown Racecourse this Saturday including his second successive win in the $100,000 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m).

Doubtful Jack is one of two horses in the 2011 Kevin Heffernan Stakes for Peter Moody
Twelve months ago Moody’s Anabba mare Avenue atoned for a disappointing Crown Oaks Day performance by winning last year’s Kevin Heffernan Stakes, and the astute trainer is back again on Saturday represented in the weight-for-age clash by Doubtful Jack and Turnitup.
Not A Single Doubt gelding Doubtful Jack ran a game second to their superstar stablemate Black Caviar two starts back in the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes (1200m), but were well outclassed on Derby Day when beaten nearly 11 lengths to finish 12th in the Group 3 tab.com.au Stakes (1400m).
On Saturday Doubtful Jack gets the inside running from barrier 1 of 14 for the 2011 Kevin Heffernan Stakes while Turnitup has drawn wide with gate 14.
Dane Shadow four-year-old Turnitup is resuming after a five month break, the stakes winner last seen running 12th in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11, before which they won the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at Doomben.
Moody has four other runners spread across the nine-race Zipping Classic Day meeting on Saturday with Highly Recommended and Covered In Class facing off in the $350,000 Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m), recent stable acquisition Rothera running in the $125,000 Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) and Limerock in the last – the $100,000 Listed Le Pine Funerals Summoned Stakes (1500m).
Meanwhile other notable Kevin Heffernan Stakes runners this year include the Peter Snowden-trained Commands four-year-old Soul, Mick Price’s in-form gelding Spirited Eagle and the Anthony Freedman-trained Masthead who was last seen running seventh to Sepoy in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 29.
