Kingston Town Classic 2011 Nominations, Weights & Odds

Elite level racing in Australia for 2011 comes to a close in Perth on December 3 with the running of the 2011 Kingston Town Classic at Ascot Racecourse where Neville Parnham’s consistent four-year-old Playing God will be back to defend their title.

The now four-year-old Blackfriars stallion was one of the spruik three-year-olds from last season, Playing God winning the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and Listed Aquanita Stakes (1800m) in November before their breakthrough Group 1 success in the Kingston Town Classic.

Playing God

Playing God will look to go back-to-back in the Kingston Town Classic this December

Continuing on this year to take out the Perth Magic Millions Trophy (1400m) at Ascot, Playing God travelled to Melbourne for the first time running two brave thirds first to Shamrocker in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and then to Shocking in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m).

More close finishes were to follow including their second in the Group 1 WATC Derby (2400m) back in April and more recently their third to December Draw in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at  Flemington on October 1.

Playing God was outclassed in their two most recent runs, however, when sixth to Descarado in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) and then 11th to Pinker Pinker in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 22.

Getting back to their home track at Ascot Playing God is tipped to return to form as they look to go back-to-back in the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

Earlier during the Festival of Perth Racing Playing God is also nominated for the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on November 19.

For the Railway Stakes 2011 Playing God is equal $5.50 along with Luckygray and Ranger in the futures markets at Luxbet.

They are even shorter in the Kingston Town Classic markets paying $3.60.

Following Playing God in the betting for the Kingston Town Classic this December are then:

  • The in-form Luckygray ($5.50 Luxbet) last seen winning the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) by an easy three and a half lengths
  • Grant Williams’ Testa Rossa five-year-old Ranger ($6) coming off three straight spring wins including the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) on November 5
  • The Simon Miller-trained Magic Albert three-year-old Ron’s Call ($7 Luxbet) coming off a victory in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m)
  • Trevor Andrews’ lightly-raced Flying Pegasus colt King Saul ($7.50)

Both Ron’s Call and King Saul and also engaged for the $350,000 Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m) at Ascot on Railway Stakes Day, November 19.

Other noteworthy Kingston Town Classic entries in 2011 include Mark Webb’s Cranbourne-based mare Avienus, the Mark Reed-trained Kalgoorlie Cup winner Kincaple, the Tony Noonan-trained Ladysea, recent Asian Beau Stakes runner-up and Ascot Gold Cup third placegetter Mega Steel, former Emirates Stakes winner Wall Street and Guy Walter’s Hawkesbury Gold Cup runner-up Willy Jimmy.
