Winning Jockey Kerrin McEvoy a Melbourne Cup 2011 Chance with Modun?

Kerrin McEvoy, regular rider to Darley’s No. 1 trainer Peter Snowden, may have kicked Melbourne Cup Day off with a winning ride in the first, but can they claim the day’s greatest prize, the 2011 Melbourne Cup, with Modun?

In a perfectly-timed ride McEvoy continued his successful association with Flemington’s annual Melbourne Cup Day riding Applegate to victory from a horror barrier draw in the $100,000 Emirates Airline Plate (1000m).

He has now ridden at least one winner on Melbourne Cup Day every year for six years.

McEvoy is also a Melbourne Cup winning jockey having saluted aboard the Mike Moroney-trained Brew back in 2000.

Today in Flemington Race 7 – the $6 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at 3:00pm (local time) – McEvoy is on a livewire Melbourne Cup 2011 chance with #16 Modun.

Drawn to perfection in barrier five, the Melbourne Cup field now down to 23 following the early scratching of #10 Mourayan, Modun is one of two representatives for international racing powerhouse Godolphin this year along with #15 Lost In The Moment (barrier 3 / $26 Luxbet).

Sitting as a $26 chance, equal odds with their stablemate in the 2011 Melbourne Cup odds at Luxbet, there is plenty to like about Modun’s winning chances today.
