2011 Melbourne Cup Barrier Update

With the late scratching of Mourayan this morning it means there are changes to the 2011 Melbourne Cup barriers.

Mourayan was in barrier 14 for the Melbourne Cup so all those outside him will now shift in one position.

It may not seem like a big deal but given it could be the difference between sitting two wide and three wide the shift could have very big ramifications on the 2011 Melbourne Cup.

For those who are a little superstitious it all changes plenty in terms of the Melbourne Cup barrier history.

Hawk Island was originally in barrier 18, a gate that has never produced a Melbourne Cup winner.

He now comes into barrier 17 which has produced four previous champions.

The unlucky horse is Niwot which moves from gate 19 which has houses five Melbourne Cup chances into the dreaded 18.

Who knows, perhaps he’s the one to break  the biggest hoodoo I the history of the Melbourne Cup.
