Hurtle Myrtle wins 2011 Myer Classic
Hurtle Myrtle has claimed the 2011 Myer Classic with a fantastic ride from Damien Oliver doing the job against some more fancied rivals.
She was fantastic value at $16 on online bookmaker Luxbet with a lot of smart money coming in late.
They’ll no doubt be thrilled now after she got the better of Sacred Choice in a tussle a furlong from home.
More Joyous came across from the wide barrier and looked to have a slot one out one back but jockey Nash Rawiller was too slow in getting there.
That meant he was caught three wide without cover on the first bend and he elected to push to the front on an over racing More Joyous.
She gave a bit of fight off the turn but she was as good as gone leaving it open to the swoopers coming from further back in the field.
As they lined up it was Sacred Choice that was the first to move going to the lead strongly with 300m to go.
Hurtle Myrtle came with her though and the put a gap on the rest of the field.
Inside the 100m though Damien Oliver’s patient ride showed and it was Hurtle Myrtle finishing the stronger in front of Sacred Choice and Dysphonia which made up plenty of ground from the back of the field.
It was another Derby Day win for Damien Oliver on an emotional day being the ninth anniversary of his brother’s death.
This is his fifth double on Derby Day as well as his 17th individual winner.
He has plenty of hope in the final two events as well with hot favourite Sister Madly in the Salinger Stakes as well as Thankgodyou’rehere in the tab.com.au Stakes.
If you want to get on Olly while he’s in this kind of form than there’s still plenty of time and it could definitely be worth your while.
Sister Madly is worth around $4.00 at Luxbet while Thankgodyou’re here is just short of $10.
Best of all you can even back them risk free by registering an account with Luxbet while using the code BONUSBET.
That will earn you a free bet matching your initial deposit and you can claim anywhere up to $500!
Hurtle Myrtle paid $16 for the win at Luxbet with Sacred Choice at a huge $8.50 for the place and Dysphonia in third at $5.20.
