2011 Victoria Derby Day Scratchings & Flemington Track Report

Today Flemington Racecourse is gearing up for the inaugural Melbourne Cup Carnival meeting – Victoria Derby Day 2011 – and below Races.com.au has the latest track report, conditions and current scratchings for the bumper nine-race program.

Flemington Track Report

  • Weather: Showers
  • Track Condition: Dead (5)
  • Penetrometer: 4.86
  • Rail: True Position Entire Circuit
  • Previous Rail: Rail in the True Position (2 October, 2011)

Getting the Victoria Derby Day racing action underway today is the $250,000 Group 3 Inglis Carbine Club Stakes (1600m), a nice introductory three-year-olds race as punters and fans gear up for the more prestigious races on the card.

Every race on the Flemington card today hold Group status, meaning there has never been a better time to get your spring betting underway by signing up with Luxbet!

Headlining the program are four elite level showdowns, the first of which is Race 4 – the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

This sprint showdown for three-year-olds looks to be Sepoy’s for the taking, Peter Snowden’s star colt the odds-on $1.30 favourite at Luxbet to race away for their fourth Group 1 career success.

Following the Coolmore is Race 5 – the $1 million Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) where two notable gallopers have been scratched, Cox Plate fourth placegetter Wall Street and the Robert Hickmott-trained Linton.

The emergencies have come out of the marquee race of the day, Race 6 – the $1.5 million Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m) at 3:00pm (AEDST), with #17 Mustang and #18 Monsili officially scratched.

This leaves a capacity 16-starter 2011 Victoria Derby field, where consistent Manawanui is the easing $2.70 favourite through Luxbet.

With the withdrawal of the Vic Derby emergencies, Manawanui comes into barrier six, and ideal gate for their first test over the 2500 metres.

The final Group 1 feature of Derby Day is Race 7 – the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at 3:45pm (AEDST), where glamour mare More Joyous shoots for her sixth thoroughbred major.

More Joyous will face a field of 14 rivals, with two scratchings from the fillies and mares classic in #6 Moment In Time and #12 Yosei.

Weaved throughout the Group 1 highlights are plenty of other exciting features offering prime betting opportunities at Luxbet including Race 2 – the $250,000 Group 3 The Lexus Stakes (2500m) where a Melbourne Cup ballot exemption is up for grabs and where three horses have been scratched with #1 Tullamore, #4 Moyenne Corniche and #16 Home On A Wing.

See below for the complete 2011 Victoria Derby Day scratchings and to see which runner in each race is currently at the top of the Luxbet markets for their respective assignments.
