Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
If there’s a challenger to Manawanui in the 2011 Victoria Derby it could well be the Mike Moroney trained Sabrage which continues to go from strength to strength as he steps up in distance.
As always in the Victoria Derby the big question is finding a horse that will stay the trip and there’s never any certainty with the vast majority never having run the trip.
What you need to look for is the way they run their races with temperament and style just as important as breeding and training.
That’s why there’s a heap of interest in Sabrage as punters have picked him out as the horse with the most surety of running out the 2500m.
He showed that last start in the Norman Robinson Stakes, a race he won in front of Sangster and Niagara.
He settled just off the pace in that event and the big thing was when he was asked to go he went, running past Sangster to claim the win.
He seemed more than happy switched off just behind the leaders and were he to pick up the same sort of position again in the Victoria Derby he’d be every chance.
That’s where the big issue is though unfortunately, just where Sabrage will be able to pull up a spot.
He’s drawn gate 16, an absolute horror result and one Damien Oliver is going to have to be right on his game to overcome.
With the class in the race you could just about write him off if he’s caught wide and probably similarly if he’s giving them too much of a start at the back of the field.
That’s why his odds are so big, if Olly were to work some magic and he found some cover mid field, that quote is probably halved.
That’s your decision then, do you take the $14 fixed price currently on offer by Luxbet on the basis of faith in the rider? Or do you let him slip and risk being caught out by a gun ride?
It’s your choice, but if you want why not make the bet without ay risk?
Certainly sounds too good to be true but at Luxbet right now the first deposit of new members will be matched dollar for dollar.
All you need to do is punch in the code BONUSBET and then claim your free bet worth anywhere up to $500!

Why Sabrage Can Win the Victoria Derby 2011
- Looks one of the ones more certain to run out the journey
- Beat a good deal of these horses last start
- Results have improved every time he’s stepped up in trip
Why Sabrage Can’t Win the Victoria Derby 2011
- Barrier 16, what a horror
- Does he have the class of Manawanui?
There may only be two reasons why he can’t win the race but they are two big ones, especially that outside draw in a big field.
That being said, should he jag a spot he’s a tremendous chance with online bookmaker Luxbet.
Expect a few to throw some bets on as the race nears too so if you want to back him, I’d do it now.
