Deceiving Sangster Can Still Win 2011 Victoria Derby

Sangster

Sangster is an interesting prospect in the 2011 Victoria Derby

Sangster has been one of the more interesting horses on the way to the 2011 Victoria Derby and based on his prep so far he certainly can’t be ruled out as a winning chance.

He started off well over just 1200m when won on a heavy Warwick Farm surface back in August.

Trained Trent Busuttin knew he was far more of a staying prospect though so began progression him up in distance.

He went to 1400m at Warwick Farm next start and again showed promise finishing half a length off Ambidexter in the Ming Dynasty.

It was all looking good going into the 1800m Gloaming Stakes then but he put in a real anomaly finishing third last.

With that then he was written off as a Victoria Derby chance, only to come back and put his name up in lights yet again.

He didn’t win the 2000m Group 1 Champion Stakes but his fast finishing third showed that maybe he could stay after all.

The Norman Robinson last start was to be his real test and he was gallant. He hit the lead probably a little too early but battled on to only go down a quarter of a length to Sabrage .

What does this mean for the 2500m Victoria Derby then?

Well base don recent form he’s a horse that’s going to at least be competitive and in with a shot as they turn.

He was simply left too exposed last time out and if he can stay with cover for a bit longer he could have a better sprint than we give him credit for.

At the same time he could put in another shocker as we saw in the Gloaming but it seems unlikely given Busutin had this race pegged out all along.

Online bookmaker Luxbet agree, they’ve listed him at an $11 fixed price, not bad value given there’ only three that are shorter.

Why Sangster Can Win the Victoria Derby 2011

  • Running into the right form at the right time
  • Was brave last start after hitting the lead too early
  • Beat a couple of horses that are more fancied in the markets

Why Sangster Can’t Win the Victoria Derby 2011

  • Was beaten fair and square last start, take nothing away from Sabrage.
  • Will he have the required speed with 200m to go?
  • Could get caught in the pack from barrier nine if McDonald isn’t careful

Sangster is a very interesting prospect in the 2011 Victoria Derby and could well be worth an each way flutter at the odds.

While we can’t guarantee he’ll win on Saturday we can guarantee that if he does you’ll get a bigger payout if you bet with Luxbet where they’ll never be beaten by the TAB!
