Speed To Burn In Salinger Stakes Field 2011

The 2011 Salinger Stakes field has confirmed the fact this race is going to be one of the most anticipated events on Victoria Derby Day at Flemington this Saturday.

The stage was set with the event scheduled to run across the famed straight six, it just needed the contingent to make the most of it.

Thankfully that’s exactly what’s happened with 14 of the quickest horses in the country getting set for Salinger Stakes glory.

It’s easy to forget this race is actually only rated at Group 2 level and in reality it’s probably almost worthy of Group 1 status.

Every name in the field should be recognizable to the average punter and chances are you’ve backed a few of these before.

Top weight in the field is Black Piranha, an eight year old veteran but a horse that’s never far away at the death.

He’s having his first start for new trainer Anthony Freedman in this race and he’ll be hitting the line hard late.

Temple Of Boom for Queensland trainer Tony Gollan will also feature prominently, he’s only been kept for these type of races all spring.

Three times he’s raced this prep, all of them up the 1200m Flemington straight and in a warning to his rivals, he’s won twice.

Phelan Ready doesn’t win out of turn but the last time he came to the Flemington 1200m he was a 30 to 1 outsider and was forced to race out of position in the lead, he almost pulled it off though just fading to fourth at the death.

Sister Madly is another who revel’s here and she brings in form behind both Black Caviar and More Joyous.

Others to watch are Mid Summer Music, Curtana and Metallurgical.

The great thing about the 2011 Salinger Stakes is the closeness of the field is going to ensure value in the market.
