Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Black Caviar might scare away all but a couple of rivals in her races but Sepoy still isn’t quite at that level of intimidation by the looks of the 2011 Coolmore Stud Stakes field.
In fact far from running scared of the barnstorming Manikato Stakes champion rival trainers actually feel Sepoy could be exposed in the Coolmore Stakes this weekend.
The theory is that Sepoy isn’t as strong up Flemington’s straight six and if they’re going to get him this will be the place.
There’s a bit of merit to the theory as well, Sepoy has been up the straight once this prep and although he did win, it was only by a length.
That may sound strange at first but the field he faced that day was perhaps the easiest of his campaign and we’ve all seen what he’s done in his races afterwards.
Sure he may have only been 50% fit that day and his natural improvement has taken him to glory, but maybe, just maybe, he could be vulnerable this Saturday.
Whichever way you look at it there will still be nine others hoping to knock him off his perch and a good deal of them are good quality in their own right.
Masthead ran fourth to Sepoy in the 2011 Golden Slipper and this prep he’s been around the money again running fourth first up and second in his last two.
Hot Snitzel was arguably the run of the day up in Sydney first up where he held on out in front after lighting up the clock on a slow track.
Foxwedge came back to form with an easy victory himself last time out and John O’Shea says he’ll be good up the straight.
The Hong Kong import Bear Hero is also here for the race and has plenty of backers over at home.
Others include the speedy little filly Satin Shoes and the talented and sometime erratic Uate.
You can make your own conclusion from the 2011 Coolmore Stud Stakes field below but Sepoy simply can’t afford to have on off day if he’s going to win.
