2011 Victoria Derby Odds – Pre-Field Markets the Time to Back Manawanui

After a flying Flemington workout at Breakfast With The Stars on Tuesday morning, Manawanui is looking in piping hot form ahead of Saturday’s Victoria Derby 2011, and odds on the favourite are set to firm with the final field released on Wednesday.

Fresh off their smart two-and-a-half length victory in the Moonee Valley Vase last Friday, which was the Ron Leemon-trained geldings’ sixth career success from eight starts, Manawanui showed they had come through that effort in fine order as they strutted their stuff this morning.

Manawanui

Manawanui looked in top form at Flemington on Tuesday morning ahead of Saturday's 2011 Victoria Derby

“He’s come through fine at this stage,” Leemon said.

“He’s got a bit more weight to put on before the end of the week but I’m happy with where he’s at.

“He did nice easy work, just did it half-pace and stretched out for the last thousand, and I was quite happy with how he went.”

Manawanui is the overwhelming $2.35 Victoria Derby favourite through Luxbet and Leemon said he was confident they would step up to the 2500 metres without issue and salute for the punters on Saturday.

A number of other Derby hopes also had final hit-outs ahead of Saturday’s clash at Flemington this morning, but few were as impressive as the favourite.

Kiwi visitor Sangster worked evenly but looked slightly sluggish and unenthusiastic in their run, while last-start Norman Robinson Stakes winner Sabrage looked far more willing to put in a solid hitout coming across as a horse in prime fitness ahead of such a big test like the Derby.

Sangster occupies the fourth line of Victoria Derby betting at a quote of $11 through [lxubet] while Sabrage is at $14, equal price with South Australian raider Perfect Punch.

The 2011 AAMI Victoria Derby final field and barriers are due out on Wednesday morning and will be published right here at Races.com.au followed by our exclusive betting preview and insider tips.
