2011 Geelong Classic Field Set To Punch On

The 2011 Geelong Classic final field has been released with a full field of 16 on hand for the Listed event over 2200m.

The Geelong Classic is a three year old contest and this year it will feature a quality list of up and coming racers.

While the top level of talent such as Sepoy, Helmet and Manawanui might not be in the mix the second tier of three year old racing is probably just as good if not better than the elite three year olds of years gone by.

The Geelong Classic will likely prove with a few horses in particular worth a close watch.

Perfect Punch is the top weight for the 2011 Geelong Classic, he’s the only one in the field carrying 58kg, a full two kilos above the next closest.

He’s earned that weight through a career record that shows five starts for two thirds followed by three wins on the trot.

Perfect Punch is based in Adelaide and after a comprehensive last start win over 1800m in the Hill Smith Stakes is travelling to the east coast for the first time.

He will face a big test though coming up against the likes of Eagle Command, Famous By Name, Mustang and Break The Seal.

Making things even tougher for him is the fact he’ll have to do it all from out wide in gate 13.

Clare Lindop has been awarded the ride on behalf of the training partnership of  Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas.

The 2011 Geelong Classic will jump as Race 6 at Geelong this Wednesday, the race before the main event Geelong Cup.
