2011 Coolmore Stud Stakes Is Firmly In Sepoy’s Sights

Sepoy was dominate in the Caulfield Sprint on the way to the 2011 Coolmore Stud Stakes

Top three-year-old colt Sepoy is well on his way to the 2011 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on October 29, 2011, after posting a dominant Caulfield Sprint 2011 win today.

The Elusive Quality gelding quickly recovered from a poor start to settle perfectly in second behind the early leader Platinum Skye.

Sepoy proved too good for the rest of the field as he coasted to victory ahead of Curtana and Mid Summer Music.

Trainer Peter Snowden was over the moon with Sepoy’s dazzling performance.

“He’s a very special horse,” Snowden said.

“He had everything against him… but for us he just showed the true qualities he has.

“The way he copes with racing, everything around the stable, he’s just a credit to himself.”

Snowden put an end to suggestions Sepoy could put an end to Black Caviar’s unrivalled winning streak.

“This special (horse) is still learning his trade,” he said.

“To me he’s 12 months away from running in a race like that.”

Snowden believes Sepoy can complete his spring preparation while being unbeaten with a win in the $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

“That horse is in the zone now, it’s my job to keep him there for the next two weeks,” Snowden said.

“He’s a magnificent horse to work with. He makes my job easy.”

Darley’s managing director Henry Plumtree found Sepoy’s win today encouraging.

“He’s a very good horse, his target is two weeks’ time from now but he’s already struck gold with the Manikato,” Plumtree said.

“Let’s hope he keeps going for the next two weeks.”

Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy, who is also set to partner Sepoy in the 2011 Coolmore Stud Stakes, felt he horse completed the run with ease.

“It’s a thrill to be associated with him that’s for sure,” McEvoy said.

“He’s not the flashiest beginner as we’ve all seen but it just worked out nice.

“He’s very professional and does it all.

“The better they are the easier the job is and I didn’t really raise a sweat and neither did he.”
