Unusual Suspect is well named, being from a different background to most, in trying to win the 2011 $2.5m Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m).
Not many horses from the USA venture out to Australia but there is no one doubt about the USA’s horse talent.
But can this import win the Caulfield Cup of 2011?

The son of Unusual Heat started racing back in 2006 winning at his second start at Delmar.
He slowly progressed through the classes and started to compete in Group races more often from 2009, winning occasionally but never dominating the scene..
He generally was a miler in the US and never ventured outside California.
After he won the Hollywood Turf last year at $10-1, Aussie Peter Lord, a fan of Melbourne’s Racing Spring Carnival purchased the galloper and brought him to Australia to win a Caulfield or Melbourne Cup.
Trainer Mick Kent believes he has the ability to win the 2011 Caulfield Cup but the question is can Unusual Suspect produce at the age of eight on stage in another country.
His fourth in the Group 2 Dato Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley was the first of his two runs in Australia – and it was a good pointer to the Caulfield Cup of 2011.
He failed in the Cranbourne Cup last Sunday but backs up for the 2011 Caulfield Cup six days later.
He tried the quick back up twice in America without success.
The horse has no leg issues according to Kent.
Backed at long odds form $101 to $81 with Luxbet, and in a year where the field is weaker than usual, it doesn’t seem impossible that this suspect could run a much better race in the Caulfield Cup of 2011 than most imagine and that his odds suggests.
