Niwot could scot an upset win in the Caulfield Cup 2011
Trainer Wayne Hawkes believes his Caulfield Cup 2011 representative Niwot is up to the task of posting an upset win over December Drawin tomorrow’s race.
Niwot finished 4.5 lengths behind December Draw in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes while being posted three wide.
“We were second up and three deep and behind the favourite and got beaten just over four lengths and we were always deep and had to work,” Hawkes said.
“He had a better run than us and only beat us a short margin.
“We’re not that far off him and he’s a very short price and we are a massive price.
“We went into the mile and half race third up and he shot clear like he was going to win and he ran out of gas towards the end. Our bloke will be better for the event.
“We’ve run over the trip and won before and (December Draw) has never raced over the trip.”
Niwot has shortened from $101 to $51 at Luxbet despite drawing the second widest barrier in the field.
