As a youngster Shootoff had always shown ability with stout displays that would get him close without winning the cigar.
It became obvious that he performed better on wet tracks winning the Group 3 Frank Packer and Lord Mayors Cup (1900m) in successive starts on wet ground.
The class factor got him over the line to win Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) before being spelled for the spring with the 2011 Caulfield Cup on the agenda.
Backed with Luxbet from $51 to $31 before drifting again to $41, a wet track would improve his chances especially from his poor alley 16.
He is at the most successful age to win a Caulfield Cup being a four-year-old.
In the Metropolitan he settled up close to the lead and would have to use a bit of petrol to do the same here.
He is one for one over the 2011 Caulfield Cup distance but has never raced at Caulfield itself.
He has inform jockey Kerrin McEvoy aboard who won a Caulfield Cup on All the Good in the 2008 Caulfield Cup.
Most expect Shootoof won’t play a major role in the 2011 Caulfield Cup.
It is likely he will be also ran or at best minor placegetter in the 2011 Caulfield Cup unless the heavens open.
