Tristarc Stakes 2011 Field & Barriers – More Joyous the Pick in Six

Colourful Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse is more confident than ever that her ace mare More Joyous will add a 15th career success to her outstanding record on Caulfield Cup Day this Saturday after drawing barrier six for the 2011 Tristarc Stakes.

More Joyous

More Joyous is the mare to beat in the 2011 Tristarc Stakes on Caulfield Cup Day

Set to run as the second-last race on a crack 10-event programme at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday, the $180,000 Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) drew a final field 13 mares at acceptance stage today.

The headline runner and sure-to-be favourite in the pending Luxbet Tristarc Stakes odds, More Joyous will jump mid-field from gate six with regular rider Nash Rawiller in the mount.

More Joyous will be second-up for the season after her convincing third to Sepoy and Sister Madly in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes over an unsuitably short 1200 metres at Moonee Valley on September 30.

Better suited to the 1400 metres of Saturday’s race, a distance More Joyous has run three times for three wins over, the More Than Ready five-year-old will take some beating if she is to be denied her fifth second-up victory from six attempts.

More Joyous is also undefeated at Caulfield with two wins from as many starts, her most recent run at the track being her commanding three length victory over Whobegotyou in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) back in February.

Manikato Stakes’ runner-up Sister Madly, who defeated More Joyous home by three lengths last-start, is also set to back up in Saturday’s Tristarc Stakes.

Drawn to perfection in barrier two with Damien Oliver engaged for the ride, the John Sadler-trained Redoute’s Choice five-year-old looks the main danger to More Joyous especially considering they won the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) at the track two starts back.

In-form horseman Peter Snowden, whose star colt Sepoy also runs on Caulfield Cup Day in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m), had mixed results with his two Tristarc Stakes hopefuls.

Screen came up with a good barrier four draw and will seek back-to-back spring wins following her narrow victory in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1200m) at Rosehill on September 24, but the in-form Dysphonia will need plenty of luck from barrier 12 of 13.

The other mare to suffer an early blow with an awkward double-digit gate for the Tristarc was Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra’s two-time Group 1 winner Response who will jump from 11 with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle as the equal 58.5kg top-weight with More Joyous.

It was better news for Response’s lesser-rated stablemate Booklet, the Tale Of The Cat four-year-old to carry 55.5kg with Steven King in the saddle from the ideal barrier three draw as they back-up from an eye-catching second to Lady Lynette in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on October 2.
