Black Caviar Out – Schillaci Stakes 2011 Odds Special

For the first time in Australian racing history since the immortal Phar Lap, a racehorse is being spoken about by punters and non-racing aficionados alike with Black Caviar set to steal the show at Caulfield Guineas Day tomorrow when she runs in first-up in the 2011 Schillaci Stakes.

Black Caviar is heavily-backed to win successive Schillaci Stakes on Caulfield Guineas Day 2011

Undefeated in 13 and looking for No. 14 to equal Phar Lap’s personal best, Peter Moody’s ace mare has captured the imagination of the public in an incredible way that reflects what a genuine superstar she is both on and off the track.

She has also become a bookie’s worst nightmare, winning time after time with effortless ease and even at her firmer and firmer odds, giving the punters something to cheer for.

Resuming in her new-season debut, Black Caviar is dominating the Luxbet markets for the $200,000 Group 1 Schillaci Stakes (1200m) and currently sits at $1.06.

While often punters will shy away from big money bets on an odds-on favourite in favour of a longer-priced contender with a genuine chance of an upset, Black Caviar is a different story.

Everybody loves to bet on the ‘Black Flash’, not because there is great value on offer, but because she is racing royalty.

There may be seven other horses in the Schillaci Stakes field this year, but Black Caviar is the only one they want and the betting market at Luxbet reflects this with the next shortest-priced runner being Karuta Queen at $13.

That’s where the Black Caviar Exotis come in.

Betting on Black Caviar to win at $1.06 may still be better than interest in the bank, but what would the Schillaci Stakes odds look like without the favourite?

Luxbet are offering an exclusive Schillaci Stakes 2011 Favourite Out Market, with odds on all the other horses in the field excluding Black Caviar.

Connections of Black Caviar’s rivals have all but conceded they are running for second, and with bookies reluctant to open Fixed Place odds on the race, Luxbet are giving their customers a great way to get a better price on the 2011 Schillaci Stakes result.

Karuta Queen is the $2.15 favourite in the Black Caviar-less Schillaci Stakes odds at Luxbet followed by Kulgrinda ($3.50) and Stirling Grove ($21).

Karuta Queen’s trainer Neville Layt knows beating Black Caviar tomorrow is a pipe dream, but said he would be far from disappointed with the $36,000 second prize.

“It is a 1000 metres and that will suit my filly,” he said.

“I’m not saying I’m going to beat her (Black Caviar) – I wouldn’t be that silly.

“I will say we’d be in front of her at some time in the race and give her something to chase.

“If she (Karuta Queen) hangs on I’ll be a genius, but if she goes past us I’ll just be another also-ran she has beaten.

“If (Karuta Queen) runs second, I just hope she is close enough to be in the picture and I’ll be happy.”

This is the same sentiment expressed by Morphettville-based trainer Richard Jolly who prepares Schillaci Stakes third-favourite in the Luxbet exotic market, Stirling Grove.

“Hopefully he doesn’t get windburn from Black Caviar,” Jolly said.

Stuart Gower, trainer of fellow Adelaide raider and Schillaci Stakes hopeful Morgan Dollar, is also of the opinion that running second to Black Caviar would be an achievement in itself.

“I hope to run a nice second,” he said.

Seven-year-old grey Morgan Dollar ran a decent third to Kulgrinda in a Listed 1000m sprint at Moonee Valley back in August and also has a decent record at Caulfield making them a nice Schillaci Stakes exotic selection.

“He does go well at Caulfield, loves the 1000 metres and he races better in Melbourne than he does in Adelaide,” Gower said.

“Something has got to run second (to Black Caviar) and I’m hoping it’s him.”

Moody says only misfortune will see Black Caviar get beaten and the team believe him.

“The only way the domestic horses she has met can beat her is through some misfortune and touch wood, cross fingers, that doesn’t happen,” he said.
