The Mark Kavanagh-trained Medecis five-year-old became a five-time winner in Australia from six starts and confirmed their claims for the upcoming Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival majors with a final-stride victory over fellow import Glass Harmonium in the 2011 Turnbull Stakes yesterday
In a heroic effort, December Draw ($2.15F) displayed a genuine will to win fighting off a fast-finishing Glass Harmonium to win by a nose while crack WA galloper Playing God ($16) finished off the winning Turnbull Stakes trifecta a further two lengths back.
December Draw came off a last-start victory in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield, which earned them a guaranteed start in the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 15.
Sitting as the firm $3 favourite in the 2011 Caulfield Cup betting markets at Luxbet, the Robert Hickmott-trained At First Sight the next-best fancied at $8.50, December Draw has now also firmed into Melbourne Cup betting favouritism.
In the Luxbet futures markets for the iconic $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m), to run as Flemington Race 7 on Tuesday November 1, December Draw is now co-favourite with Underwood Stakes winner Lion Tamer at a quote of $9.50.

Allocated 52kg in the Caulfield Cup Saturday week, December Draw carting 54.5kg to victory yesterday, Kavanagh is understandably excited about his Spring Cups prospect.
“He drops back to a handicap next start and steps up to 2400 (metres),” Kavanagh said.
“I reckon that might bring him right on, that’s what we’ve got to do.
“He’s gone from a 72 rating in May to a Group One…that’s pretty good and we’re certainly excited going forward.”
Caulfield Cup weights will be raised at least 1.5kg if topweight of the entries, reigning Melbourne Cup winner Americain, does not accept which will allow Michael Rodd to take the mount.
