Guy Walter’s Streama has trounced her opposition by more than six lengths to win the 2011 Flight Stakesat Randwick Racecourse today.
The Stratum filly proved she could handle the faster tempo of the race when she produced a late charge down the final straight.
Hallowell Belle finished in second, while Dowager Queen put in a brilliant run to finish third.
Walter has originally asked jockey Hugh Bowman to lead on Streama, however she was unable to get across from her barrier of nine and was forced to sit towards the rear of the field.
“We discussed how to ride her we thought we were going to go forward,” Walter said.
“What she’s shown is how adaptable she is.
“She’s a top filly.”
The trainer will now send Streama out to the paddock until she returns for the 2012 autumn carnival.
“She’s going to go out again now, she’s had four quick runs in succession he,” he said.
“We’ll bring her back in the autumn and she’ll be even better.”
Hugh Bowman was concerned about his position in the early stages of the race.
“I knew she was good and she won her last two by dominating the pace,” Bowman said.
“I was a bit concerned at about the 1400 (metres).
“(But) she showed what she can do in the final furlong.”
This was Streama’s third straight win of the spring, with the three-year-old also posting victories in both the Group 2 Furious Stakes and the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes.
