Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of the chief lead-up races to the Group One fillies’ races of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival will run at Flemington this Sunday, the 2011 Edward Manifold Stakes a must-see feature on the Turnbull Stakes Day programme.
The $250,000 Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) attracted a final field of 13 starters this year, many of which are prominent figures in both the 2011 Thousand Guineas and Crown Oaks 2011 futures betting markets at Luxbet.
In recent years the Edward Manifold Stakes has served as an excellent guide for the later elite level classics.
The Michael Moroney-trained Brazilian Pulse ran a close second to Sistine Angel in the Edward Manifold last spring before her third to Yosei in the Thousand Guineas and subsequent Crown Oaks victory during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Headlining the list of 2011 Edward Manifold Stakes hopefuls are a number of fillies high up the Luxbet markets for the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on Wednesday October 12.
Favourite of the Edward Manifold Stakes field for Sunday is the Mark Kavanagh-trained Celebrity Girl at a quote of $2.80 through Luxbet after she drew ideally with barrier four.
Celebrity Girl sits on the fourth line of Thousand Guineas betting at $7.50.
Undefeated in her opening two career starts, including her excellent two and a half length victory in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on September 3, Celebrity Girl was demoted from first to fourth upon protest in a controversial Group 3 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) result at Caulfield last-start on September 17.
She is tipped to return to form on Sunday as she gets back to her home track and definitely has the class to win, Celebrity Girl also likely to have benefited from her Prelude experience.
The shortest-priced of the Edward Manifold Stakes hopefuls in the Thousand Guineas odds is the Robert Smerdon-trained Fastnet Rock filly Mosheen ($7), she is also the $3.30 second favourite behind Celebrity Girl for Sunday.
Mosheen has drawn wider in gate eight of 13, but has the experience to overcome.
Runner-up to Sepoy in the Golden Slipper as a juvenile, Mosheen is out for her first win as a three-year-old and fourth-up should be getting close to her peak.
The other drawcard Edward Manifold Stakes acceptor for 2011 is Bliss Street, the last-start Thousand Guineas prelude winner paying $4.80 through Luxbet to win on Sunday.
She is also well-liked in the futures Thousand Guineas odds at $11, a price that will firm if she posts back-to-back wins this weekend.
The WA raider sees Flemington and the mile for the first time on Sunday, but is a must-include in all exotics.
Other notable Edward Manifold Stakes 2011 horses include the Peter Moody-trained Metonymy ($16) and for a roughie to add into exotics the Races.com.au team like $61 long-shot And Rock who is drawn to perfection in barrier three.
