2011 Epsom Handicap Field & Odds Update

The feature race of a crack Epsom Super Saturday programme at Royal Randwick this weekend is the Epsom Handicap 2011 and there have been a number of notable moves in the betting odds following the official scratching of the Peter Moody-trained King’s Rose from the field.

Sacred Choice

Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Choice has been one of the best backed horses in the 2011 Epsom Handicap

Top-class Kiwi mare King’s Rose has been removed from the $500,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) field and markets due to concerns over her fitness when she showed signs of tying up during her trackwork this morning.

King’s Rose was drawn in the far outside barrier 18 of 18 for the Epsom Handicap 2011 meaning her withdrawal has had no affect on the starting positions for the remaining contenders.

The early scratching has, however, had an impact on the Epsom Handicap betting odds at Luxbet.

2011 Epsom Handicap Betting Market Movers –

  • Sincero has drifted out from $4.60 to $4.80 through Luxbet, making them a good value bet even as race favourite, but can they get a clear run from the inside alley?
  • Cox Plate-bound mare Sacred Choice has been well supported despite her wide draw (17), in from $14 to $9.50 at Luxbet to win her first race since the Doncaster Mile in April at Randwick on a heavy track, she loves the Randwick mile but history says no as the last mare to win the Epsom was triple figure roughie La Neige (1976)
  • Pinker Pinker in from $7.50 to $6 at Luxbet, punters coming around to Greg Eurell’s mare who has a nice recent record over the 1600 metres with a Group 3 win Flemington back in March and her narrow last-start second to King’s Rose at Moonee Valley in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes
  • Red Tracer is still at juicy double figures but has shortened considerably from $26 to $21 at Luxbet, Chris Waller’s ultra consistent Dane Shadow mare yet to finish out of the top three in her 11 career starts, Randwick record is a good one too as she has won two of her three starts here including a black-type over 1400m in April
