Odds-on favourite for the Stan Fox Stakes 2011 at Rosehill this Saturday, Golden Rose winner Manawanui has further firmed in the markets to win their fifth race on the trot after the Group 2 field was cut to just five starters with the early scratching of Choice Words.
Ron Leemon’s ultra consistent Oratorio gelding Manawanui opened at the top of the Luxbet odds to win the $250,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at a short quote of $1.22 and have since been slashed into the nearly unbackable price of $1.16.
Only six horses were accepted for the 2011 Stan Fox Stakes final field on Wednesday, but now Manwanui will face only four rivals after connections chose to withdraw dual Rosehill acceptor Choice Words in favour of running the lightly-raced Choisir filly in the $100,000 Listed Reginald Allen Handicap (1400m) at the same meeting.
While $1.16 and firming is definitely unattractive Stan Fox Stakes odds for the punters, there looks to be nothing to suggest Manawanui won’t win on Saturday.
This turns an unappealing odds-on quote into a 16% betting bonus, and if you look at it like that then it really is worth backing Manawanui to become the Stan Fox Stakes winner at Luxbet!
Why taking $1.16 odds on Manawanui is worth doing:
- Hasn’t been beaten since running third on debut at Canterbury back in March
- Comes off four consecutive wins
- Put four and a half lengths on their closest rival when winning the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) first-up at Warwick Farm
- Is a Group 1 winner thanks to their upset Golden Rose victory over Smart Missile last start
- Beat Smart Missile!!
- Has form up to 1400 metres (Golden Rose) so 1500 metres shouldn’t be a stretch
- Has won at the track (Golden Rose)
- Faces only four rivals at Set Weights
- Has a 103 rating, the next highest-rated of their rivals is Cocky Raider (74) who hasn’t won since November last year
If you really hate odds-on betting and refuse to back Manwanui for the win at these odds, then go for value and go for the Stan Fox Stakes Place bet.
Remember, in such a small field Place means ‘runs second’, so only one horse can Place along with the winner.
While Brian Smith’s Brisbane raier State Of Wealth ($8), the David Payne-trained Cocky Raider ($10) and Clarry Conner’s Irish Times ($14) are all in contention for second behind Manawanui, we are not discounting the $71 Stan Fox Stakes roughie Roma Giaconda.
The David Hayes-trained Magic Albert filly has just her third start on Saturday after breaking her maiden status on September 12 with a smart win over 1400 metres at Albury.
She may be lightly-raced and yet to see a metro Sydney field but she has won, won from a horror barrier 11 of 14, has done the 1400 metres successfully and is under the radar here if she doesn’t get scratched in favour of the Morphettville race she has also been accepted for this Saturday.
