Waller Wears The Shorts 2011 Nominations

Chris Waller has the top-rated entry for the 2011 The Shorts at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, Sydney’s leading trainer set to resume his Group 1 winning veteran Danleigh in the George Main Stakes Day showdown.

Multiple Group One winner Danleigh is the highest-rated 2011 The Shorts nominee

There were 13 horses nominated for the $200,000 Group 2 The Shorts (1200m) this year, a race won by the late great Hot Danish 12 months ago.

Last year’s Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes winner Danleigh has been nominated to race first-up for the season in The Shorts 2011, the eight-year-old last seen finishing sixth behind Hay List in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 23.

Waller also paid the early entry fee for Albert The Fat in The Shorts nominations, the seven-year-old yet to step out for their new trainer having previously been prepared by Scone-based horseman Paul Messara.

One of the trainers of the moment, Peter Snowden, also boasts multiple 2011 The Shorts nominees with Lonhro six-year-old Skytrain who comes off a game win in the Listed Show County Quality (1200m) at Warwick Farm on August 20 and Command sour-year-old Soul.

A Group 2 winner last spring at Flemington, Soul has had two runs this season finishing fourth on both occasions including their credible last-start effort in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1100m).

Concorde Stakes’ winner Decision Time and runner-up Winter King are also among the noteworthy horses in contention for The Shorts 2011 field.

The Clarry Conners-trained Foreplay four-year-old Decision Time hasn’t been beaten since their close-up fourth behind Toorak Toff in the 2010 Golden Rose in August last year having gone on to win four successive black-types.

David Payne’s One Cool Cat five-year-old Winter King has also been a picture of consistency running a narrow second in all three of their starts this season.

The 2011 The Shorts final field and barrier draw will be released tomorrow and published here at Races.com.au along with a detailed race and betting preview.
