Patinack Farm head trainer John Thompson has confirmed that his in-form galloper Trusting won’t be stepping back in distance to contest the Group 1 George Main Stakes at Rosehill this Saturday and instead will vie for back-to-back Group 2 wins in Sydney in the Hill Stakes 2011.
With the bumper George Main Stakes Day meeting having to be transferred from Randwick to Rosehill, the day’s headline event the $500,000 Group 1 George Main Stakes will be run over an amended distance of 1500 metres and not the traditional mile.
Tale Of The Cat five-year-old Trusting raced and won the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) second-up at Warwick Farm on September 3, and despite a Group One win calling, wouldn’t be suited to dropping down in distance from that win to do so.
Thompson, then, has also entered and will accept Trusting for one of the support races at Rosehill this Saturday – the $200,000 Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m).
“Bringing Trusting back in distance wouldn’t have suited him so he’ll step up to 2000 meters in the Hill Stakes,” Patinack’s racing manager Robyn Hartney confirmed.
The weight-for-age 2011 Hill Stakes nominations attracted 14 hopefuls.
Another dual George Main Stakes – Hill Stakes entry spruiked for greatness this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival is the Chris Waller-trained My Kingdom Of Fife.
The Group 1 winning import resumed for the season with a close first-up second to Trusting in the Chelmsford Stakes, with a decision on which race they will line-up in on Saturday pending.
My Kingdom Of Fife, Trusting and many of the other Hill Stakes entries are heading towards a start in one of the key Royal Randwick races on October 1 with the $500,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and $400,000 Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) two of the richest Sydney features of the season.
Current 2011 The Metropolitan Handicap odds have My Kingdom Of Fife as the equal $8.50 favourite with fellow import Glass Harmonium at Luxbet.
Trusting is rated a $15 Metropolitan chance.
In Epsom Handicap 2011 betting markets at Luxbet, which are lead by Sincero, My Kingdom Of Fife is paying $16 while Trusting is further down the odds at a price of $21.
Waller is well represented in the 2011 Hill Stakes entries.
Along with My Kingdom Of Fife he has four other horses from his stable nominated with Hawk Island, 2011 Melbourne Cup-bound Illustrious Blue, Sydney Cup winner Stand To Gain and last-start Wyong Gold Cup conqueror The Verminator.
Another major Sydney Spring Carnival contender among the Hill Stakes hopefuls this year is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Tullamore, the winner of the Group 2 Brisbane Cup in the winter coming off an eye-catching eighth beaten only three lengths by Sincero in the Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1200m) at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago.
Waterhouse is out for successive wins in the race having prepared last year’s Hill Stakes winner Descarado who went on to take out last year’s Caulfield Cup in Melbourne.
Based on this form, successful punters will be keeping a close eye on the Hill Stakes results as an early guide for the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 15.
For the latest 2011 Caulfield Cup odds, where My Kingdom Of Fife is at a juicy price of $26, and for the best betting markets on all the Sydney and Melbourne races this weekend, head to Luxbet.
