Punters Begg For 2011 Sebring Sprint Odds

Betting markets on all of Rosehill Garden’s Golden Rose Day 2011 black-types have now opened at bookmakers around the country and in the $200,000 Group 2 Sebring Sprint (1300m) the Grahame Begg-trained Ilovethiscity is getting plenty of just that – love.

Ilovethiscity

Ilovethiscity is the early favourite to win the Sebring Sprint 2011 at Rosehill this Saturday

Drawn ideally in barrier two of 14 in the Sebring Sprint 2011 field, Magic Albert four-year-old Ilovethiscity has opened as the clear $3.70 favourite in the Rosehill Race 6 markets at Luxbet.

Winner of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas in the autumn, Ilovethiscity has an excellent Rosehill record having taken out the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at the track back in February.

They also ran a devastatingly close third here in the Group 1 Golden Rose 12 months ago, making both the track and day significant for Luxbet punters to note when looking at the Sebring Sprint Form for Ilovethiscity.

Ilovethiscity, whose grand final will likely be the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 22, resumed with an encouraging first-up second behind Pinwheel in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 20 and will only have improved from then.

The Peter Snowden-trained Warwick Stakes winner Pinwheel is also backing up in the Sebring on Saturday and currently occupies the second line of betting at Luxbet at a quote of $5.

Drawn mid-field in gate seven, Pinwheel is the 59kg topweight of the Sebring Spring field.

Having carried the same 59kg to victory from an awkward gate 10 draw in the Warwick Stakes last start, Pinwheel will take some beating on Saturday as they look to continue their excellent run, the Lonhro gelding having finished in the top three in all but one of their nine starts this year.

There are three other Sebring Sprint hopefuls at single-figure odds to win the race formerly known as the Theo Marks Stakes, they are:

  • Torio’s Quest ($7 Luxbet) – Brett Partelle’s Magic Millions Guineas winning Oratorio gelding, last seen winning the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm by an impressive four lengths on June 11. Comes into the race fresh, but their first-up record isn’t exactly enticing and they have dawn double-digits (11).
  • Fast Clip ($7 Luxbet) – Cox Plate hopeful from the stables of one Ms Gai Waterhouse, she likes this son of Snippetson and rates them highly and they did win the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day. Very consistent, aside from their last-start failure at Randwick in the wet on April 23. Chris Munce engaged, need a little luck from the draw (10) and will probably be wanting longer but not out of contention by any means.
  • Foreteller ($9.50 Luxbet) – Last-start winner of the Premier’s Cup Prelude (180m) at Rosehill on August 13, steps right back in distance which is unusual, but this import has been consistent since joining Waller’s ranks.

Dansili four-year-old Foreteller is one of three Sebring Sprint acceptors for Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller this year who also paid up for seven-year-old Triple Honour and four-year-old Pressday.

While $16 chance Triple Honour has suffered an early blow drawing the extreme outside barrier, Pressday is sure to firm in the $15 Sebring Sprint odds after coming up with a favourable gate three draw.

The Domesday entire won the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) on a Heavy track last November, but has been disappointing since.

Full of promise as a two-year-old, Pressday’s juvenile season culminating with three straight Group victories in Brisbane including the Group 1 TJ Smith, Waller has struggled to get them back to form with niggling issues continuing to mar their performances.

Still, Waller hasn’t given up on Pressday and rates him the best of his three horses in the Sebring Sprint on Saturday.

“Bad barriers blew his confidence in the autumn,” Waller said.

“Fortunately he has drawn well this Saturday.

“It’s probably 100 metres short and it’s a quality field, but he’s drawn well to at least hold a position and finish off strongly.

“I’m really happy with the way he’s going.”
