City Loving Sebring Sprint 2011 Barrier Draw & Field

Grahame Begg’s in-form four-year-old Ilovethiscity has come up with the ideal barrier two draw in the 2011 Sebring Sprint field of 14, acceptances for one of the accompanying black-type features on the Golden Rose Day programme taken today.

Ilovethiscity has drawn ideally for the 2011 Sebring Sprint

While the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) and the highly-spruiked showdown between gun colts Smart Missile and Helmet will take centre stage at Rosehill Racecourse this Saturday, another crack race on the card for Luxbet punters is the $200,000 Group 2 Sebring Sprint (1300m) – formerly the Theo Marks Stakes.

A top-class field of spring hopefuls make up this year’s Sebring Sprint line-up, many of which are heading towards a start in Australasia’s weight-for-age championship, the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 15.

One 2011 Cox Plate-bound galloper taking their next spring step in the Sebring Sprint on Saturday is Magic Albert stallion Ilovethiscity.

As a three-year-old Ilovethicity ran a close-up third behind winner Toorak Toff in last year’s Golden Rose, Begg hoping that Golden Rose Day can produce another good result 12 months on.

A multiple Group winner, Ilovethiscity became an elite level hero with their Randwick Guineas success back in March and resumed with an encouraging first-up second behind Pinwheel in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 20.

Begg has named the Cox Plate as Ilovethiscity’s grand final, Luxbet currently paying a generous $51 in their Cox Plate odds for them to win.

Regular rider Brenton Avdulla will continue their association with Ilovethiscity on Saturday, the hoop excited over the horse’s chances both this weekend and later on during the carnival.

“He’ll be improved by the run again on Saturday but I think he’ll still be fit enough to win on Saturday,” Avdulla said.

The horse that defeated Ilovethiscity last start, the Peter Snowden-trained Pinwheel has also been accepted for the Sebring Sprint.

Due to be ridden by stable jockey Kerrin McEvoy, the ultra-consistent Lonhro six-year-old is the 59kg top-weight of the field, Pinwheel drawn in gate seven as they look to go back-to-back.

Another Cox Plate contender looking to improve their claims for the Moonee Valley showdown with a win in the Sebring is the Brett Partelle-trained Torio’s Quest.

The Magic Millions winning Oratorio gelding was last seen running away to four length victory in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm on July 11.

Torio’s Quest, a $31 chance in the Luxbet Cox Plate odds, resumes in the Sebring on the 53kg minimum from barrier 11 with Glen Boss booked for the ride.

Meanwhile, successful Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse will vie for her second successive Sebring Sprint victory following glamour mare More Joyous’ win last year.

Waterhouse has a hat-trick of horses accepted in the feature with Sydney Cup runner-up Older Than Time (barrier nine), progressive four-year-old Fast Clip (barrier 10) and veteran galloper Lorne Dancer with the inside alley.

More Joyous will also make an appearance at Rosehill on Saturday, the five-time Group 1 winning mare set for an exhibition gallop between races.
