Chris Waller’s resuming Group One winning import, My Kingdom Of Fife, has opened at the top of the odds for the Chelmsford Stakes 2011, the headline race at the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival meeting transferred to Warwick Farm this Saturday.

The former Queen Elizabeth II-owned six-year-old has a commanding record in Australia winning their opening three starts in the country during the autumn, including the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), before finishing a game second to Scenic Shot in the Doomben Cup last start on May 21.
My Kingdom Of Fife is engaged to race first-up in the $175,000 Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) on Saturday, the gelding getting their first look at the Warwick Farm track.
Having won the Group 3 Doncaster Mile Prelude over the Randwick mile first-up in April, My Kingdom Of Fife has plenty of early support to take out the Chelmsford and is installed as the $3.80 favourite in the Chelmsford Stakes odds at Luxbet.
While My Kingdom Of Fife is the punters early favourite, there are six other horses in the 2011 Chelmsford Stakes final field of 12 at single-figure odds through Luxbet to upset the top elect.
Second favourite is Bruce Hill’s Gold Coast galloper Startsmeup at a quote of $6.
The Danzero four-year-old has had just one start over the mile, when six lengths away 10th to Shamrocker in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington in March.
However, they have shown good improvement since then and their run was hampered by an awkward barrier 15 of 16 draw.
Hill had originally hoped to get Startsmeup into the $125,000 Group 3 Tramway Handicap run over 1400 metres at the same meeting on Saturday, the race Stradbroke Handicap winner Sincero resumes in, however a capacity field of acceptors forced them into the spot of fourth emergency.
On Saturday Startsmeup has drawn gate nine and is well-liked in the betting after running an eye-catching third behind Pinwheel, beaten less than two lengths at their Warwick Farm debut in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on a Heavy track three weeks ago.
“I would probably prefer the 1400 metres if I had a real choice, but I think it’s neither here nor there, because it was a pretty solid race the other day on a wet track, it was probably more like a mile,” Hill said earlier this week.
“The Chelmsford isn’t as strong as I thought it would be….if the weather stays the way it is he will run super.”
Occupying the third line of Chelmsford Stakes betting at Luxbet are the John Thompson-trained Trusting who ran a good fifth in the Warwick Stakes having boxed on well after getting collared at the 200 metres and Anthony Cummings’ progressive Savabeel gelding Strike The Stars both installed at $7.
Rounding out the single-figure chances to become the Chelmsford Stakes winner on Saturday are:
- Dual Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha ($8) coming off a fourth in the Warwick Stakes
- Joe Pride’s Doncaster Mile winning mare Sacred Choice ($8)
- Last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday ($8.50) who is also accepted for the $300,000 Group 2 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday
There is little to suggest all of these gallopers won’t be competitive but for punters seeking a little extra value with their Saturday racing selections, there are a number of very generously priced Chelmsford Stakes hopefuls.
Stand To Gain at $126 is very much over the odds, Chris Waller’s galloper resuming after winning the Sydney Cup at Randwick in April.
Although the mile is short for them, at over $30 to Place through Luxbet they could prove the value bet of the day at Warwick Farm.
Mirjulisa Lass at $31 could also add good value to your Chelmsford Stakes Trifecta and First Four picks through Luxbet.
