Sincero Draws Five in Tramway Handicap 2011 Field

Resuming Stradbroke Handicap winner Sincero is set to get all the favours at Warwick Farm this Saturday after drawing ideally with barrier five in the $125,000 Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1400m).

Sincero has drawn gate five for their first-up run in the Tramway Handicap

The Stephen Farley-trained sensation was one of 20 acceptors for the Tramway Handicap, one of the eight races transferred from Randwick to Warwick Farm this Saturday.

A capacity 16 starters plus four emergencies are engaged for the early spring showdown, Sincero set to start at the top of the Warwick Farm Race 8 odds at Luxbet.

Having won nine of their 13 starts to date, including a narrow victory over Peter Snowden’s Doomben 10,000 winner Beaded in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) last start at Eagle Farm on June 11, Sincero is being set for a stint at the richest weight-for-age race in Australia – the 2011 Cox Plate.

This year the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) will run at Moonee Valley on October 22 and in the latest Cox Plate odds at Luxbet Sincero is paying $21.

Sincero is also the early betting favourite for the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival’s $500,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on October 1.

A firm decision on whether to bypass the Epsom in favour of heading straight to Melbourne and prepare for the Cox Plate will be based on Saturday’s Tramway Handicap performance.

“A lot will depend on how he performs on Saturday and how he pulls up,” Farley said.

“There are a few options, we can stay for the Epsom and then go to Melbourne and back up a week later and then it is a fortnight in to the Cox Plate.

“Or we can head to Melbourne after Saturday and run in the Underwood Stakes (at Caulfield on September 17).

“He has got to be very competitive to warrant a trip to Melbourne straight away.”

Sincero will be reunited with heavyweight hoop Chris O’Brien on Saturday at 58kg, O’Brien missing the Stradbroke ride and win due to Sincero’s light weight allocation in the race.

Farley, however, is confident Sincero will still be competitive going back up in the weights for the Tramway.

“He got in I thought pretty good at the weight actually, considering that he could have got a few kilos more, but he is back in nice order,” Farley said.

“He is up to that sort of class now, and while you would like to get down in the weights a little bit, he is up to that class and that is where he is at.

“He is pretty forward as he only had the three-weeks off and he did not lose a real lot of condition, but there is improvement in him hopefully going forward into the spring.”

Sincero’s biggest dangers in the Tramway Handicap field look to be Gai Waterhouse’s Brisbane Cup winner Tullamore and Grahame Begg’s Group 1 Flight Stakes winning mare Secret Admirer who resumed with an eye-catching second in the Toy Show Quality at Warwick Farm on August 20 and who also came up trumps with the inside barrier for Saturday.

Meanwhile, Bruce Hill will be forced to run his last-start Warwick Stakes third placegetter Startsmeup in the $175,000 Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Saturday’s meeting after the large number of Tramway Handicap acceptors forced the four-year-old into being the fourth emergency.

The Chelmsford drew a final field of 12 lead by Chris Waller’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner My Kingdom Of Fife and Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday.
