Punters Label Elite Falls As Best Bet In 2011 Silver Shadow Stakes

Elite Falls

Elite Falls is currently favourite to win the 2011 Silver Shadow Stakes at Warwick Farm.

Trainer John O’Shea is hoping that the punters have it right when his filly Elite Falls goes around in the 2011 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm tomorrow.

Elite Falls has been backed into $2.60 favouritism at Luxbet after originally opening at $2.70.

O’Shea was encouraged when Clarry Conner’s Satin Shoes, who was beaten by Elite Falls in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes last season, won her debut spring appearance last Saturday.

“That filly of Clarry’s that won in Melbourne on Saturday we beat in the Reisling so it was good to see that form is okay,” O’Shea said.

“It looks a nice race for my filly on Saturday and she’s quite well treated at the weights.”

Elite Falls will carry 56.5 kilograms when she runs in the 2011 Silver Shadow Stakes.

O’Shea is likely to run Elite Falls in the Furious Stakes (1400m), Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) and Flight Stakes (1600m) later in the carnival, which are all open to three-year-old fillies only.

“At this stage I’d say she’ll stick to the fillies’ races but I’ve kept her in the Golden Rose to keep the option open if we wanted to run her there,” he said.

With Warwick Farm currently experiencing wet conditions, O’Shea will be mindful not to push Elite Falls too far too quickly.

“The wet track helps her in terms of her capacity to win the race and it eliminates a few others, hopefully it doesn’t eliminate her,” O’Shea said.

David Payne’s Florentina will also take part in the Silver Shadow Stakes 2011 tomorrow, where she will be ridden by jockey Corey Brown.

Brown was impressed with Florentina’s win in the Inglis Bonus Handicap at Rosehill Gardens last start.

”It was a good strong win at Rosehill and she was there to be beaten that day,” Brown said.

”I got to the front way too early but she toughed it out.

“I have ridden her work since and she has definitely improved.

“It is a step up in class but I think she can match it with these better types and it is the right time to be taking them on.”

Florentina is currently paying odds of $10 to win the 2011 Silver Shadow Stakes at Luxbet.
