Ilovethiscity's place in the Warwick Stakes 2011 final field in doubt after suffering a minor hoof injury

Ilovethiscity’s resuming run in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm Racecourse this Saturday has been put in doubt after he sustained a minor hoof injury during trackwork yesterday.

The four-year-old entire pulled a shoe during his routine work and stood on a nail.

Trainer Grahame Begg said that while Ilovethiscity has shown no initial signs of lameness and did not bleed, he will not run him in the 2011 Warwick Stakes if there were any doubts about his health.

“We’re monitoring the situation,” Begg said.

“With those sort of things you just never know, they can flare up or they can settle down pretty quickly.

“It can go either way but rest assured we won’t be taking any chances.”

The trainer is planning to run Ilovethiscity in the Sebring Sprint (previously the Theo Main Stakes) in three weeks’ time before tackling the Group 1 George Main Stakes on September 17.

“There’s really no suitable race for three weeks,” Begg said.

“The situation is if he doesn’t run on Saturday he’ll run in three weeks in the Theo Marks and then we might have to look at Melbourne and the Rupert Clarke.

“If he runs Saturday he will still have three weeks into the Theo Marks then back up in the George Main.

“He’s ready to go.”

Ilovethiscity will front Racing NSW’s official veterinarian, Dr Craig Suann, at 3pm tomorrow when a decision will be made concerning his scheduled Warwick Stakes run.

Should he run, the Magic Albert entire will jump from barrier eight and will carry 58.5 kilograms.

The 2011 Warwick Stakes is sure to be a thrilling event with or without the presence of Ilovethiscity, with Maluckyday, Hawk Island, Sacred Choice and Shootoff all set to be part of the star-studded field.

Warwick Farm Racecourse is currently rated a Heavy 8 after the track experienced 8.5 millimetres of rain overnight, with more rain forecast to fall late on Friday.
