Parnham Ready To Play God in 2011 Cox Plate

Premiership winning Perth trainer Neville Parnham has confirmed that WA horse of the year Playing God will resume at Belmont at Saturday week before going on to target the Cox Plate during the Melbourne spring carnival.

Parnham said that Playing God had been producing excellent track Gallops and was on track to start in the Goodwood Sprint at Belmont.

“Playing God went super on the Belmont grass on Saturday,” Parnham said.

“He will trail next Monday and then he will be ready to resume.”

Parnham confirmed that Playing God would have just one start in Perth before heading to Melbourne for a Cox Plate campaign that could also include runs in the Caulfield Stakes (formerly the Yalumba) and the Turnbull Stakes.

Playing God was named WA horse of the year at a gala function on Saturday night after a spectacular year.

Earlier in the year he strung together four wins at Ascot which included the WA Guineas, the Kingston Town Classic and the Perth Magic Millions three year old race. He then went to Melbourne where he was a certainty beaten in the Group One Australian Guineas that was won by Shamrocker.

He then started as the bookmaker favourite in the Australian Cup at Flemington, but could only manage third behind Shocking.

Parnham is also considering a Caulfield Cup tilt injury prone galloper Bridgestone.

Bridgestone has not raced in over a year because of a suspensory injury, however he did show some talent as a three year old winning two stakes races and running fourth in the Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield.

Parnham said that he was happy with Bridgestone and his leg was fully recovered. He also indicated that the son of Pentire would more than likely have two barrier trials before travelling to Melbourne with Playing God.

Playing God is currently rated a $61.00 chance in pre-post Cox Plate markets, while Bridgestone is considered unlikely to even make the Caulfield Cup final field and is currently being quoted at $101.00
