Talented mare Pinker Pinker will resume in Saturday’s Cockram Stakes at Caulfield this Saturday.
The four year old daughter of Reset impressed trainer Greg Eurell with her most recent trial at Cranbourne, where she finished second behind Miss Bindi.
“She wasn’t out to break any records because she is racing on Saturday,” Eurell said.
“She was not let go but I was really happy with the way she finished her trail off. She stretched out very nicely.”
Pinker Pinker will be meeting many of the mares that she often raced against last year in the Cockram Stakes on Saturday.
She will come against Group One winners Absolutely and Brazilian Pulse as well as talented mares Lady Lynette, Avienus and Do Ra Mi.
While Pinker Pinker was prepared for a tilt at the AJC Oaks last campaign she has a good record over the shorter trips which is sure to give Greg Eurell a confidence boost.
She has won at 1100m and 1200m earlier in her career, and she did manage a third in the Kevin Hayes Stakes at Sandown which was taken out by smart filly Miss Gai Flyer.
Dwayne Dunn was aboard the mare in her most recent barrier trial and it is understood that he will partner the horse throughout her 2011 Melbourne spring racing carnival campaign.
Racing in the same trial as Pinker Pinker was Eurell’s other big spring carnival hope, Red Colossus.
Like his stable mate Pinker Pinker, Red Colossus was not over extended in the trial and ended up finishing fourth in the 800m hit out.
“He really worked home well,” Eurell said.
“He got back and needed to be shaken up, but that is just the sort of horse he is.”
“I couldn’t be happier with the way he went. He is fairly forward but is going really well. I would say he is definitely the one to watch this time in.”
Eurell confirmed that Red Colossus would resume from his spell in the Group Two Memsie Stakes at Caulfield in just over a fortnight’s time.
Eurell will be hoping for a repeat of the last time he bought the horse back from a spell in the Memsie. In April Eurell bought Red Colossus back for a short Autumn campaign, and first up he was able to win the Victoria Handicap over 1400m, beating home handy sprinters such as Sound Journey, Zedi Knight, Danzylum, Carrara and Set For Fame.
At this stage it is unclear what path Eurell will take with Red Colossus. His best form has been in the 1400m-1600m range, however he is also a South Australian Derby runner up (behind Kidnapped) so there could be some nice staying events for him somewhere down the track during the spring carnival.
