Rawiller’s Rosehill Rides – Once Were Wild Suffers Cut

Vets will need to check Gai Waterhouse runner Once Were Wild after she suffered a cut to her head while exercising on a horse walker last night.

The AJC Australian Oaks winner required stitches for the wound but Waterhouse has assured stewards she had not missed any track work leading up to the NE Manion Cup at Rosehill Gardens today.

Her jockey Nash Rawiller will be praying for a clearance has he has plenty of faith she could be ready for a return to her best today.

She’ll need to improve drastically though with a last start 11th in the Chipping Norton Stakes miles behind the winner Danleigh.

she is now at her pet distance,” Rawiller said.

”Her work has been good but she hasn’t had the chance to show it over the shorter trips.”

Rawiller will also have his first ride on board Brilliant Light today in the Ajax Stakes with another crack at the Doncaster Mile just around the corner.

The gelding won the event last year before winning the Doncaster Prelude and then finishing third in the main event.

”He hasn’t shown his best to date this preparation but if he happened to click on the day, he’d be right in it,” Rawiller said.

”He has won three races at Rosehill and he did run a place in a Doncaster. I’m really looking forward to riding him.”

Kiss From A Rose

Rawiller will then be back to the Waterhouse stable with a ride on Kiss From A Rose in the Birthday Card Stakes.

She blitzed them first up this year but last start as not as convincing with a grinding third place.

”She didn’t travel very kindly last start,” Rawiller said.

”You could tell down the back at Warwick Farm she wasn’t in her comfort zone, but hopefully she’ll be a lot happier this time.”

In the Rosehill Guineas he’ll be on the front runner Light Brigade who was contested a few big races this season but never been able to hold on for a place.

Rawiller hasn’t given up though hoping the gutsy horse can hold out in front today.

”It was a good staying effort in the Randwick Guineas – he sat up there in second place and kept giving plenty”

Rawiller’s form this season has been outstanding with his partnership with the Waterhouse stable producing no shortage of winners.
